On Monday as I am sure you all know a major tragedy struck Virginia Tech University and a lot of innocent people were hurt and killed due to the carelessness of one person. This brought a lot of questions to my mind about, why people feel the need to hurt others because of their own troubled past or twisted minds. I mean what gives someone the right to take out their personal frustrations and anger on people that had nothing to do with them. To me I will never be able to understand someones reactions in this manner. From what we have all heard it sounds like this kid was troubled or angered about life for quite sometime, so why is it that everyone continued to let this person live this way. Then again I ask myself if I would have stepped up to reach out to this person if he had continued to give me the cold shoulder. Is this a normal reaction for all of us to ignore people that seem troubled even though they do everything they can to make it known that they have questionable issues? I pray and wish the best for the families that have been tortured by this persons actions!

What are your opinions on this, do you think that this situation could have been prevented? Do you think your campus is prepared for something of this nature?

I would be interested to see if they are able to find anything wrong with the killer’s brain in an autopsy. Of course he shot himself in the face, so this may be difficult. From all the stories I’ve been hearing on the news though, Cho Seung-Hui was seriously disturbed.

After the University of Texas Tower shooting back in 1966, the autopsy of Charles Whitman revealed that he had a brain tumor. It was never proven that this led to his horrific actions, but the tumor was located in the hypothalamus, from which emotions are controlled.

As more news comes out about the Virginia Tech Massacre, including the killer’s manifesto, I find it hard to believe that this guy even got admitted to college. If he was writing things like this in high school and before he came to the university, you would think some warning flags about his mental state would have been raised much sooner.

This situation is a real shame! I can’t imagine what could draw someone to a point of self-hatred that would allow them to concieve this kind of plan or even worse carry it out. My question is; are people born this way or does something push them over the edge? Its hard to imagine that there are actually people capable of these kinds of actions! How can one act so devilishly with no remorse at all. What is it that they get from the power they have over thier victims? I can’t begin to speculate if the signs of this guy acting out in this way were as visible as they are made out to be. I’m sure the guy seemed depressed or weird but you can’t assume someone will don something trajic like this. Its not in our nature to assume those kind of things about people. All I can really say about the whole situation is why?
